Cavan Institute Trip
6th Class were invited to Cavan Institute on Friday the 20th of October for Maths Week. We had such a fantastic time with Nora and James! We learned about juggling and the maths behind it. James did lots of tricks on his unicycle. He explained to us about gravity and we performed different experiments. We learned about Parabola, which is a special curve, shaped by an arch. He demonstrated this using his juggling skills. We also tested this idea out using nerf guns. Check out our photos from our fun day!
We’ve had a busy start to 6th class. Here are the some of the art pieces that we created in the first term.
After a long summer off, we kicked off the year to an active start with Hockey in PE!!
We had great fun carrying out experiments in Science. We learned about sound and how it travels through various materials.
Junior Entrepreneur Programme
We recently held our Dragons Den Day for our Junior Entrepreneur Project. Mr. McCartin, Ms. Cunningham and Mr. Oliver Reilly were the Dragons on the day. Eight groups from 6th class presented their project ideas to the dragons. All eight ideas were excellent and the dragons had a really hard decision to make. The Overall winner was the keychains/photographs and we can’t wait to start making our product!
A big thank you to Rodney Dolan from Centra who visited 6th class students to tell them about life as an entrepreneur. The students learned a lot about running your own business. They plan to use his advice during their JEP project.
Launch Of JEP Flag
Here we are launching our Junior Entrepreneur Programme Flag
6th class recently completed a block of martial arts coaching. They learned about self defence and worked on their striking technique. They really enjoyed the classes and they all received a certificate for completing the programme.
Peter Mc Verry Trust
Following on from our fundraiser for the Peter McVerry Trust, one of their representatives agreed to Skype call our 6th class students. Michael Thompson who works with the trust told the students all about their work helping homeless people in Ireland. The students learned loads about this really important service that helps those in need.
Big Sow Project
6th Class are taking part in the Big Sow project. We planted cress, spinach and peas. They are growing every day! We pick a sower of the week every week. So far, Zoe, Kyle and Leah are in the lead.
