Reading Recovery

Here in St Clare’s we are proud to be a Reading Recovery accredited school with one teacher currently working in our school as a Reading Recovery teacher taking 4 pupils from first class and senior infants within the age range 05:09 to 06:06 years. Reading Recovery lessons consist of 30 minute daily one to one lessons consisting of familiar reading of books, a running record of yesterdays new book, some word work learning about how words work, a letter sort, a shared writing piece, a cut up sentence of their writing that day and finally a new book.

Reading Recovery © is a licensed, school-based, short-term, early literacy intervention. It is designed for children aged around six, who are the lowest literacy achievers after their first year of school. Reading Recovery © involves intensive one-to-one lessons for 30 minutes a day with a specially trained Reading Recovery teacher. It is a short term, early literacy intervention lasting for a period of between 8 and 20 weeks and the series of lessons is individually designed and bespoke for each child. Check out some photos of reading recovery pupils at work in our school.
